Porcelain veneers are thin, semi-translucent shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth. Dental veneers can be used to improve a variety of dental conditions, including:
- Yellowed, dark, or discolored teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Cracked or fractured teeth
- Spaced or gapped teeth
- Misaligned teeth
- Irregularly shaped teeth
- A “gummy” smile
To prepare a tooth for a veneer approximately a 1/2 millimeter of enamel is removed, called etching, from the surface of your tooth which ends up being about the thickness of the veneer.
You choose the color and shape of your veneers.
Over time, the enamel surface of our teeth may become yellowed or discolored from age. Certain eating and lifestyle habits, such as smoking or drinking wine, can worsen stains. Teeth whitening aims to reverse this process.
Oceanview Dental offers three main types of teeth whitening
- Laser, or light, whitening: A special light activates a whitening gel placed on your teeth. This treatment takes place in our dental office and can lighten teeth by multiple shades in just one visit.
- Gel whitening: Similar to light whitening, a gel is applied to the surface of your teeth to gently bleach your tooth enamel.
- At-home whitening: We will make custom plastic trays to fill with a gentle whitening gel for you to take home and use at your own convenience.

Porcelain inlays and onlays are used to treat moderate levels of decay or damage while maintaining a pleasing appearance.
Porcelain inlays are fitted into a cavity, or space, in a tooth, while a porcelain onlay extends to replace a cusp, or the elevated bump of a tooth.
Porcelain inlays and onlays are used when the tooth is not damaged seriously enough to require a dental crown, but not enough tooth structure remains for a normal filling.
